SmartQ T5-II Review by Play Smart: Part II: TV-Out

SmartQ T5-II Review by Play Smart: Part I:Music

SmartQ T5-II Review by www.allpmp.net

allPMP has reviewed the upcoming PMP SmartQ T5-II.

Their thoughts on the player are:

The SmartQ T5-II is one of the best players released, with TV-out, emulators, a great and powerful main chip and the best audio codec, 16.7 millions colors LTPS screen, it’s a sure-bet, a really good investment. However you will need a SD card because it don’t have internal memory, but SD cards are really cheap nowadays. This player will need a bit of configurations and setting up at the very beginning.

Read more HERE

Note for SmartQ T5-II firmware and emulators

If you buy the SmartQ T5-II without SD Card, first, be sure to have a SD/Mini SD/Micro SD card. Then in this SD card, you have to unpack the latest firmware files (with the help of a USB SD card reader), found on the SmartDevices website:http://www.smartdevices.com.cn/Files/adminfiles/smartq/down/T5Gen2_V1.1.0.zip(latest as i posted this is v1.1.0)

The firmware files are supposed to be in the F:\system folder (replace F for the letter used on your computer for your removable drive),then you can turn it on, it will create the folders where you have to put your NES/SNES/GBA/Neo-Geo games. (called "FC" for NES/Famicom games, "SNES" for Super NES/Super Famicom games, "GBA" for Game Boy Advance, and obviously "NeoGeo" is for Neo-Geo games. You can also put in savegames for them.

Feedback from recent second batch buyers

1.From ID:ajd2647

I got mine on Friday the 13th.

A couple tips I have noticed so far. The 16GB class 6 Transcend card works perfectly.

Also, USB connect works only when unit is on before plugging into the computer. If off it will go to charge mode.

You can operate the SmartQ while it is plugged in to charge.

Great player btw! Top notch sound and no bugs I can find yet. Reset hole is larger so you can use the earphone plug to reset if need be. TV-out works well. Speaker is more than decent. The free stuff is cool too! The viewing stand and cable organizer are cute and the screen protector is good for the accessories. Thanks again!

2.From ID:Kynes

Bought mine yesterday. Now I finaly have my SmartQ :)

I have been silently waiting for it to hit the store, ever since right before the T5 was discontinued ^^
I must say I completely agree with ajd2647. It's a great player and I haven't finished playing around with it yet :)

More feedback...

Comments about SmartQ T5-II from Some websites

Comment 1:

"The SmartQ T5-II is an fearsome player running on top of a 600mhz ADI chipset.

SmartQ is known to spoil his customers with tons of features and firmware upgrades and this player is the top of their line.

It sports a 3'' lpts screen with a broad viewing angle and thanks to his powerful chipset it does allow decoding of high resolution movies and even emulation of powerful gaming consoles such as gameboy advance and neo geo.

It does have a tv-out to watch the movies directly on your tv or even play the games using the device as a joystick.Speaking of joystick the device will soon have an optional wireless joystick to enjoy even more the gaming capabilities of this little beast.

Think this is everything?

The T5-II does have album art,a custom 6 band equalizer, tons of audio codecs(including cue sheets support) and a Wolfson WM8987 DAC making it an ideal choice not only for video playback but for audio too!

Want more? What about soft subtitles support? This is unique among small pmp,the SmartQ T5-II does support srt subtitles.

Although it doesn't have any internal memory the device have a SDHC slot."

Comment 2:

SmartQ's T5-II handheld does multimedia and emulation

posted May 24th 2008 at 8:37AM

Although Oppo's fresh S11 likely has SmartQ's latest beat in the attractiveness department, the SmartQ T5-II is the unanimous champion in terms of sheer utility.

Not only can this handheld handle MP3, OGG, WMA, FLAC, APE, AAC, WAV, AVI, XviD, DivX, MPEG and MP4 files (just to name a few), it also features a video output, SDHC expansion slot, six-band equalizer and a 600MHz processor.

Furthermore, you'll find a 3-inch 320 x 240 resolution display and a built-in emulator that handles GBA and even NEO GEO titles."

Comment 3:

"What a bunch of crap. Why can't anyone get these? Is it because they are THAT GOOD? Apparently. I want a player that has video out, plus one set up for playing games, and so far, this is the only one that has all that and plays more than just NES games. I've been waiting months for someone to get these. The UI is kickin, and it even shows the album covers! Plus the firmware is updated OFTEN which is always a plus."
